Sexual assault counselling and support

Zig Zag’s Sexual Assault Program provides information, advocacy, referral, support and counselling to young women, trans and gender diverse young people aged between the ages of 12 and 25. The service recognises that young people face unique issues when dealing with the effects of sexual assault, and that they are less likely to be believed or supported.

A Zig Zag counsellor will:

  • Listen, believe and support

  • Provide a safe space to be able to share your feelings around what has happened and address any concerns you may have

  • Provide information about what counselling is so you know what to expect

  • Build a relationship with you based on honesty, openness and respect

  • Provide ideas and options about ways to explore your thoughts and feelings through writing, talking, art and group work

  • Provide information that allow you to make informed choices

  • Encourage and support you in the decisions you make and respect your choices

  • Help you to find supports in your community

  • Advocate alongside you to access support and ensure your voice is heard

  • Provide a confidential and free service

We’re here to help break the silence.
We’ll listen and provide support.

Group Work

Zig Zag aims to provide a safe and supportive environment where young people can ‘break the silence’ surrounding their experiences of sexual assault, reduce the isolation that they feel, and learn tools for managing the impact of their experiences.

Zig Zag runs a range of group programs throughout the year from one-off workshops to closed group programs over several weeks.  Contact us to get more information about upcoming groups.

Information Resources

The Zig Zag Sexual Assault Service produces a number of information resources for women and gender diverse young people and the general community. These resources include general information about sexual assault, its impact, and how support can help.

In addition to this Zig Zag produces and publishes a range of resources for human services workers and professionals that provides guidance and a good practice framework when responding appropriately to survivors of sexual assault.
