Zig Zag would like to reaffirm our ongoing commitment to supporting and providing services to transgender and gender diverse (TGD) communities. Zig Zag services welcome young women, trans and gender diverse young people aged 12-25.

Zig Zag was established in 1988 to respond to the specific identified needs of young women aged 12 – 25 years, including sexual violence, accommodation, and the provision of a safe and confidential place for young women to obtain information, resources, and support. Zig Zag recognised the diversity of gender identity among young people and the need for organisational change to ensure trans and gender diverse young people are welcomed and have the freedom to be themselves when accessing and getting support at Zig Zag.

In consultation with key LGBTQIA+ advocates, organisations, and community members, Zig Zag began developing and reviewing organisational policy, procedures, and practices to support trans and gender diverse inclusion across all programs in the organisation and made necessary changes also to Zig Zag’s Constitution.

Zig Zag proudly supports young women, trans, and gender diverse people from all cultural backgrounds and abilities. We are committed to creating spaces that are inclusive, accessible, and welcoming to all young people who engage with our services. We acknowledge that trans and gender diverse people have historically been excluded from women’s services, including Zig Zag. We take responsibility for this harm and are committed to ongoing learning, accountability, and reparation to rebuild trust and strengthen connection with trans and gender diverse communities.

Zig Zag affirms cultures and identities that shape the lived experience of young people. We stand in solidarity with marginalised young people and advocate for their right to safety and self-determination. We are committed to challenging power imbalances and cultivating safe spaces based on relationships that are grounded in respect, dignity, and belonging.
