Windsor Community Centre
Zig Zag is delighted to introduce the Windsor Community Centre (WCC), a custom designed and newly built facility for the local community in the Brisbane North region. At 57 Grafton St, Windsor, the Centre connects with greenspace and is opposite Windsor Park. It is conveniently located 5 minutes from bus stops on Lutwyche Road and 10 minutes from the Windsor Train Station.
The Centre has been developed to strengthen the local community, creating links between community members, groups, activities and support services and is managed by Zig Zag and owned by Brisbane City Council (BCC).
The Centre has two large spaces available for hire by local community groups, schools, not-for-profit organisations, businesses, and council and government groups running events or activities that promote inclusion, support and community wellbeing. The Centre will also be a hub for Zig Zag services aimed at preventing and responding to sexual violence and youth homelessness, and other wellbeing activities for young women and gender diverse young people.
Hirable spaces
There is a hall/large meeting space, ideal for committee meetings, team or staff training and similar events, and a large deck/garden space with multiple seating areas. There is also a kitchen/cafe (reheating, refridgeration and beverage facilities) which can be accessed via the hall or deck and is shared with Zig Zag staff and guests. (Please note that the bathroom facilities are accessed via the deck and office foyer area, so groups with hall bookings must cross a small portion of the deck to access the bathrooms.) Tables, chairs, an audiovisual system, and whiteboard are also available for hire.
Hiring fees are $50 per hour (plus GST), with discounts for not-for-profit organisations and unfunded community groups. Groups seeking to hire both the hall and deck/garden can contact Zig Zag to discuss a discounted rate for combined hiring.
An after-hours fee of $25 (plus GST) is applied to bookings that start before 9am or finish after 5pm weekdays (excluding public holidays) and $50 (plus GST) for weekend bookings. In general, spaces can only be hired by groups with indemnity insurance. Please contact us directly to discuss discounted rates or insurance-related queries.
Important considerations
There are some limitations to the use of the Centre, set by the Council and relevant regulations.
The hall and kitchen areas can be used between 7am and 9pm Monday to Saturday, and between 8am and 6pm Sunday. The deck/garden space can be used between 8am and 8pm Monday to Saturday and 9am-6pm Sunday. The use time limits apply to pack-down after activities.
The hall space can accommodate up to 100 people, with seating available. Events with up to 150 participants are considered where both hall and deck/garden spaces are hired. W are in a residential neighbourhood, so the space is not suitable for very large events or parties and noise must be limited to reasonable levels. No sale of alcohol or gambling is allowed on the premises.
Prospective hirers will receive a booklet outlining their responsibilities, including the need for site orientation, first aid provision and work health and safety responsibilities.
